Alternative Therapies for Migraine

Posted under Body Alignment, Herbalism - Jun 9th, 08

If you are a long term sufferer of migraine you will have no doubt addressed issues in your diet to eliminate any food triggers.  Nutritional deficiencies can be at the root of many attacks so you will have introduced essential fatty acids such as flaxseed, evening primrose oil and oily fish to your diet and may be taking a magnesium supplement.

What you may not be aware of is that there are many alternative therapies available that can provide a natural means of alleviating and treating migraines to reduce the amount of chemical based drugs you need to take.

Bowen Technique
Bowen practitioners see you as an integrated biodynamic system which they treat with gentle movements which rebalance the body.  When treating migraines attention is given to the head and upper spine where release points are manipulated.  This releases tension in the body.

Cranial Osteopathy
A cranial osteopath firstly assesses the tone of tissues around the pelvis, base of the skull and diaphragm.  Again movements are used to release tension and release the pressure build up that causes migraine.

Herbal Medicine
Feverfew is the herb that has been used traditionally to treat migraine.  Fresh leaves can be infused in hot water to make a tea or added to salads or sandwiches.
