Random trials of Aromatherapy massage was held in hospitals in various parts of the United Kingdom to study the effects if any to the physical bodies of patients with advanced cancer to see if they had improved sleep. The trials showed an improvement in the sleep patterns but only for a short amount of the time and unfortunately there didn’t appear to be any long term benefits with regard to the relief of pain.
Forty two people were chosen to either have thirty minutes massage once a week for a month with added essential oil lavender and carrier oil, some of the forty two had no massage and some had the basic massage with only the carrier oil.
There were no long term results in anxiety or depression although it was noted that after the massage only group had more results after their third or fourth massage.
Throughout the month evaluation were taken and the results were both of the massage groups that used the essential oils had better sleep than the ones that had none. This shows that there was a beneficial effect using Aromatherapy oils as a massage.
