Ayurveda the Indian skin therapy

The traditional Indian beauty and it brings balance to mind and body though treatments including a diet, herbal remedies, home remedies, detoxifying the skin, yoga and massage. Results show that the skin becomes healthy, hair glossy. Practitioners believe a person is governed by one of the three skin types or dosha as it is referred to.

The three doshas determine a diet and lifestyle a person should be adapting their life to:

Vata (fair)
•    Vata skin is fragile, rough and dry; therefore avoid oiliness as acne can break out earlier in life than other skin types. Fruit is good for the Vata person and avoid foods that are considered fry such as chips and beans. Try to avoid drinks that contain caffeine, sugar and alcohol. A Vata person will find comfort in warm foods rather than cold.

Skin Recipe:
•    Take an avocado and mash it with some honey until the mixture is a spreadable consistency.  Apply to the face and leave for ten minutes and wash off with warm water.

Pitta (Insensitive)
•    If a persons skin has inflamed or rashes like eczema which gives an appearance of oiliness. Food which calms the skin milk, almonds, cottage cheese and fennel. Avoid hot spicy foods which will warm up the already inflamed skin. Cold and frozen foods can also be a problem as they will shock the body’s immune system.

Skin Recipe:
•    Mix cucumber to a pulp and add it to plain yoghurt. Smooth over the face and leave for ten minutes. Rinse with warm water. This mixture will cool down a skin and reduce the redness.

Kalpha (Oily)
•    Oily skin needs warming up with spices that comforting like ginger in their food. Vegetables, fruits and whole grains that are rich in anti-oxidants.  Foods to avoid are refined sugars. However if you need to sweeten up thing then honey is beneficial. Avoid pasta, bread, and dairy products.

Skin Recipe:
•    Take a bunch of cherries; mash them up enough to cover the facial area. Leave for ten minutes and rinse with warm water. The antioxidants in the cherries will boost the skins complexion.
