If you experience issues with your back it can be extremely incapacitating and painful. Often a doctor can do little but prescribe pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs. However there are many alternative therapies available that can help:
Herbal medicine
Herbs can be used as an alternative form of medicine to treat the pain and inflammation. Herbs such as Bromelain and Chamomile are have strong anti-inflammatory properties to naturally and gently reduce inflammation without side effects.
Aromatherapy
There are many essential oils that can be applied in massage to ease stiffness and back pain. Thyme, Rosemary and Horse Balm are readily available to buy. Add a few drops to a base oil such as sweet almond oil and make your own massage oil. Another alternative way to benefit from these essential oils is to add some drops to a hot bath and soak.
Yoga and Pilates
Yoga is an excellent physical therapy for back pain. It gradually improves balance, posture, flexibility and muscle tone. The body learns to distribute weight effectively and hold optimal posture.
Pilates focuses on developing improved body alignment through increasing muscle length and flexibility. Core muscles are developed and strengthened. Breathing techniques are taught to encourage healthy blood flow to muscles.
