A study was done in America by telephone and by letter to find how many cancer patients use complementary and alternative health remedies to help with their cancer; nearly half of the people asked had or still used the alternative home remedies that are available.
The alternative therapies that people are using in their every day life and proved most popular are prayer, relaxation and spiritual healing and the taking of vitamins and other supplements. However the least alternative therapy used was acupuncture and hypnosis although it is known to help with the relief of pain and has been used in the relief of pain with the past generations passing the knowledge to family members to use to help mankind.
Although there is a limited amount of information that is available about the results of alternative therapies working there is research ongoing to confirm if the role of an acupuncturist using the special needles can relieve some pain that can be severe in the neck and shoulder areas. It is also known that people that suffer from cancer of the breast and ovary rank high in the list of people using the complementary and alternative therapies as the treatments can be found to be relaxing which in turn helps both mind and the physical body.
