Colour Therapy Explained

Posted under Colour and Light Therapy - May 17th, 08

We are all affected by light and colour whether it be by the ambience a colour creates in a room, the way a favourite red t-shirt fills you with confidence when you wear it or by the way a bright yellow sunflower makes you feel warm, happy and filled with optimism! This is no coincidence – colour and light has been used for centuries by various cultures and societies to treat illness.

Absence of light has a dramatic impact on the hypothalamus, the pineal and pituitary glands which consequently impacts our physical and mental health.

As part of a colour therapy consultation the therapist will observe your aura. An aura is a field of colours that emanates from the body naturally but that few of can see. The therapist will then take a medical history.
Colour therapy is based on the belief that each organ and body part responds to a certain colour. By studying the aura the therapist can identify where the patient is lacking in health and choose a colour to treat it.

Treatment can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Focusing sunlight on the certain part of the body
  • Incorporating certain coloured foods into the diet which have certain chemical affinity with certain parts of the body e.g. carotene (a good source is found in carrots and sweet potatoes which have an orange colour and have an affinity for skin and mucous membranes).
  • Drinking Rainbow water. This is where water has been poured into a coloured container and then has been left in direct sunlight. The belief is that the energies of the colours in the container are absorbed into the water.
  • Imagining that you are breathing in colour – this is often used in Yoga meditation also
White light filtered through colour filters is directed onto the body
  • Choosing certain colours to wear as these will have an effect on your inner health and mind
