Shiatsu practitioners have trained for years and usually can be found belonging to the reputable Shiatsu Society.
When you make an appointment with a practitioner it will take slightly longer due to the initial consultation. The consultation is required to access any problems and keep records of any treatments given.
Shiatsu is carried out on a mat and clients do not have to take off any clothes. Most sessions last for one hour on a weekly basis depending on the outcome of the first treatment.
History:
This is a traditional Japanese hands on healing therapy and it helps a wide range of conditions including some of the critical and general ones to keep the mind and body balanced.
The philosophy underlying Shiatsu is vital energy (‘Ki’ in Japanese) flows throughout the body in numerous series of channels called ‘meridians’.
‘Ki’ can stop flowing which in turn the result produces a symptom.
Common conditions:
• Back and joint pains.
• Migraine and headaches.
• Menstrual and digestive problems.
• Sports injuries and Depression.
• Asthmatic and breathing problems.
The benefits of shiatsu are relaxation of the mind and body. It can ease tension and stiffness of muscles and improve posture, circulation and improve breathing problems.
Shiatsu means: (Sh) means finger and (atsu) means pressure.
